MLS Recognizes Emily Brown for Her Invaluable Customer Service Skills

Emily came to work for MLS over 15 years ago as a customer service representative. Since then, she has demonstrated exceptional skill at building long-standing relationships with each of our clients - something that our company consistently strives for. She has demonstrated our values - professionalism, reliability, efficiency and honesty - and that is why she now heads the customer service department and has even taken on a new role this year as our eBay sales lead.

Let's take this opportunity to learn more about Emily, from both a professional and personal perspective.

What is your favorite part of working at our company?

”I really enjoy the team atmosphere we have here. Everyone works together and pitches in where needed for the overall success of the company.”

What do you like most about the work we do here?

“I like that we work so closely with our customers. It’s a different feeling from larger corporations. We really get to know our customers and their business needs – but we also build relationships with our long-time customers on a personal level. They love calling and giving updates on their children that just got married or the newest grandchild.”

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

“I started here nearly 17 years ago, right out of college. I worked closely with all of my colleagues and learned so much about the business. Coming in with little to no knowledge of sales or the printer business, I grabbed on to whatever I could and learned about the equipment and the services we provide by watching our sales team. I went quickly from answering phones to overseeing retail sales, then retail and wholesale. I am proud of being self-taught and the growth that I have experienced.”

How would you describe your company culture?

“Midwest Laser really values teamwork. No matter the role you play in the success of the company, collectively we all work together to brainstorm ideas and opportunities for growth.”

What do you think makes our team culture unique?

“It is a fun and laid-back atmosphere. We all work hard, but often times we are having fun doing it. Most of our employees have been here a long time so we have become a work family. We want to see each other succeed in business and in our personal lives.”

What do you enjoy most about working here?

“I like the people that I am surrounded by and the flexibility I am given in my schedule. I value the fact that I can work from home if one of my kids is sick. Plus, I feel like I have known the owner my entire life!”

What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

“When I was kid, my dream job was to be the first woman to ever play in the NBA – I wasn’t even phased when the WNBA was launched in the late 90’s – I still wanted to play in the NBA. Sadly, I missed the boat on that one.”

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

“I think I would tell my younger self that it is okay to create boundaries. You will not please everyone.”

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

“That is a hard one. But I think teleportation would be fantastic. Work and two kids keeps life BUSY! Teleportation would make seeing the world a breeze, but I could also make it from a basketball game to a wrestling meet in record time!”

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

“I really want to skydive! I have wanted to do it for as long as I can remember.”

What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

“Oh gosh! I am currently binge-watching Modern Family with my kids – it’s an oldie but one that we can all enjoy together, and it provides endless laughs! I read a lot of books! I am going through about 3 books a month because sometimes I can read an entire book in one weekend.”
